Recall on old style transmission skid plate.
I found this out today and thought it might shed some light on all the fire problems:
Dealer Service Instructions for:
Safety Recall M22/NHTSA 12V-216
Transmission Skid Plate
2010 (JK) Jeep Wrangler
NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission (sales code DGV) built through July 14, 2010 (MDH 071420).
The transmission skid plate on about 67,800 of the above vehicles may allow debris to collect in the undercarriage of the vehicle under certain driving conditions. If an excessive amount of debris collects in the undercarriage, the catalytic converter could ignite the debris, causing an underbody fire without warning.
The transmission skid plate must be replaced with a skid bar on all involved vehicles. Models IMPORTANT: Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer used vehicle inventory. Dealers should complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail delivery. Dealers should also perform this recall on vehicles in for service. Involved vehicles can be determined by using the VIP inquiry process. Subject Repair

The thing that bothers me about this, is that it only included 2010 models. What about the 07-09 models that have the same skid plate? Figured I'd give you 07-09 guys a heads up, as you would have never gotten a recall notice about this. At least you could keep an eye on it, or maybe call Chrysler and demand the same action be performed on your Jeep.

Screw that, the skid plate is better and protects more. This just a cheaper fix than having to add tranny coolers to every 2007-2011 jk which is what is really needed for the overheating tranny prob. I'm not saying some of the fires weren't caused by collected grass but hell, the cats and exhaust can catch debri on fire aswell. They served up a hot oil light for the tranny prob awhile back for the 07-09's, being as that the 10's have the light already let's figure out a cheaper fix for the fires. Same thing is happening with the clock spring issue, let's just recall the 07s and hope for the best on the others. They are going to do the bare minimum on any recall, even though the pre 2012's have the same parts that have the same issues. I do believe the 2011's got the bar instead of the skid plate though.
