i have a 2010 jk with six speed and crappy 3.21 gears.

17inch rims and 255/75/17's

i am planning on putting 16's on it and 33's.

so i want 4.88 gears.

but i havent found a answer..


Why do i need a new carrier mine has 1000 miles on it.?

what do i need ....just the gears or what

 

u need a new carrier because 3.73 and numericaly higher gears do not fit with the carrier that u have. but if u are looking at lockers down the road, u can replace the carrier with a locker and be done with it.

as far as i know, u should only need the carrier for the front. check out the for sale section and u should be able to find someones used stuff. thats how i sold mine

 

were can i find new carriers? with say 4.88's?

 

i would have to go back through some posts, someone had mentioned i think from a mopar store for around $150 new (carrier only)

maybe check with northridge4x4. im sure they can point you in the right direction with very reasonable pricing. and u could get your 4.88s through them too

but if u dont mind buying some used stuff, check out the sale section. people are always putting gears up for sale. i had sold carrier and 4.10 gears for $150. most of the used stuff, nothing is wrong, people are just selling when they upgrade like you are doing..

I think Northridge has carriers for $60-$80 , can't remember exactly.
