Default Removing center console...

OK, I give... I have searched and search with out finding an answer... I want to remove my center console in my '08 JK-X with 6spd, but how to get passed the e-brake lever?

The console is just a basic one... No top access.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Just too a look at it and looks like it will slide threw the opening without removing the handle but you know you have a computer under the console not sure what your after plans are its out

Well, you would think it would slide over the handle... But the lever doesn't raise high enough.

As to my plan... either replace the console with one with an arm rest or paint it... I'm painting the trim on the vents and dash... I thought it may look cool to do the console too... But, really would like to find an OEM console with an arm rest, but...

I replaced the center console in my 07 6 spd, I had the same base model console, no arm rest/storage. I didn't remove the e brake handle, just really pried the plastic to get it to fit through. My ebrake was also soft so that helped. I changed it out for a Tuffy security full console.

Yeah, I'm likin' the looks of the Tuffy Security Console... I have one of their 'concealled drawers'... They have great stuff and great customer service too... BUT!? The price tag... I have too many plans to fund... Oh well, it's only money. LOL

oh I hear ya! Pricey chunk of metal, but with more storage over the OE consoles and a higher/ larger arm rest, the security, sure adds piece of mind when parked door less.

Did you try disconnecting the e brake cable from underneath the jeep to see if it gave you more pull on the handle?

I have Tuffy's center console in my '07, was fortunate to get it cheap from a back-to-stock seller. When removing the stock center console, I don't recall having to touch the E-brake. I'd suggest downloading Tuffy's install instructions from their website or a vendor to see the removal process, or I'll dig them out when home if you need ?

The Tuffy console is superb, higher with a padded elbow rest, a decent locking mechanism that is solid and does its job as advertised - a good purchase if you want security.

Thanks for the suggestions... I was thinking along the same line as to try disconnecting the e-brake cable... But, I'll go get Tuffy's install instructions and see what they have to say...

I know I wouldn't go wrong with getting the Tuffy Console... I really like my concealed drawer.

So, we'll see... And let you all know what my finding are.

Thanks again
