Default Replacement Air Filter

Hey everyone,

I have been receiving mixed signals regarding air intake systems for the jeeps (AEM Brute Air Intake and Airaid). Some say they can hydrolock others say they can’t. However, I have come to the conclusion that even if it does not hyrolock and works great... when I am finished off-road and mudding, I will have to cleanout this mudding intake filter every time... and I am out on the hills quite often. Therefore, I have decided to just replace the stock filter and keep the enclosed box jeep has provided. This is where my problem comes into place, I can’t find a replacement filter!
Can anyone tell me if K&N or AEM is planning on producing a replacement filer for the jk’s

Thanks!

All will hydro lock if you take water into the air box be it CAI or stock intake. Don't go deeper than the bumper or get a snorkel!

Default K&N not making a filter for JK airbox...

I went looking for a drop in air filter by K&N. No luck! Then I got smart and looked at a filter for a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country with a 3.8L. DID NOT match at all. So, the only other option is the CAI or the Rusty's Airtube. They will get wet if you hit a puddle hard! Anything over 24" of water is going to soak them.

I have used both K&N replacement filters and CAI for different vehicles and would like to get opinions on which might be better for the 3.8L. I know if I get a snorkle then the CAI will be out, but I want to see what it looks and how well it functions first. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! + $50. is better than $250.

K & N drop in filters are quieter, but less of a power gain than a CAI. The CAI has better airflow, but the "open" filter is vulnerable to water and noisy!

I know it will be a little less HP, but how much do you think? The motor can only suck in so much air.

My guesstimate is 5-8 HP gain from a drop in filter and maybe double that from a CAI system.

Read the recent JP, they got a whopping 4hp with the inline 6 so don't expect any more.
