Is this right!
New to forum,
Rubicon 2014 unlimited w/3:71 went out four wheeling and found out that :
could not lock front or rear lockers in 4 high
could only lock them in 4 low
took on a sand hill in 4 high got almost to top and bogged down, rolled down put it in 4 low locked in front and rear lockers,
did not have the speed to get up just dug tires in sand.
then tried setting the outo selector to 3rd gear , hit the hill again started low then transmission shifted to the higher gear and I practically
flew up the hill, is this okay to use the gear selector this way ? And will it work in higher gears in 4 low, also why wont the lockers front and back
engage in 4 high? Could this be done a different or better way to conquer the hill?

In 4 lo i always leave it in drive, but i use the individual numbers in 4 hi and 2wd offroading from time to time. Hell i even put it in 2 to gain speed then when it starts slowing i drop it to 1st or it would bog down.

I have done the locker mod so I can lock in 2WD or 4WD. This is a safety feature from the factory so you don't lock in at higher speeds.
Also, look into the ESP bypass, this way you can turn off the ESP so the computer won't try to take over. This is also a factory setting to help maximize control even in 4WD.
In low range the ESP will be disconnected, I still select the gear I want and rarely use drive when wheeling.
With the 3.6 in 2012 Rubi automatics come with 3:73, I only found out last minute and ordered mine with 4:10, now I believe 4:10 are a $35 option.

Just disabling the esp via the owners manual is plenty imo. Good old steering wheel dance.

Thats correct. Best option is the rubi locker mod or a 2 lo option from teraflex. I personally did the locker mod and love it. Also damn since when they start raping rubi owners with 3.71 gears? That the penatly for the newer better motor?

The best way to mod a new Rubi without messing with the wiring is using a Hypertech Intercepter Tuner P/N 755006. It is plug and play, and will do many things including the lockers and swaybars at any time. with this you will not have warranty issues. Remember the new Jeeps are dependent on computer for all. i
