Default Rubicon Rear axle LSD when unlocked?

I just got my 07 rubicon and can't seem to find a good answer to this question please help!

when my axles are unlocked does the rear act as a limited slip?
also about how long should it take to lock? i'm new too it and not sure if having to wait a little bit is normal.

Thanks!

rubi axle is open when un-locked

Should take just a second or two...maybe three to lock and then unlock.

JK Rubicons are open when not locked, but have Brake limited slip which use the ABS system to apply braking force to the wheel that is slipping. works pretty well on the street from my experience.

TJ Rubicons had a gear driven limited slip when unlocked, however it was also the Achilles heal of the TJ Lockers since it was prone to failure and would then take out the rest of the diff

So if it takes 5-15 secs to lock could there be a problem?

The lockers do sometimes take a few rotations to lock and the teeth to line up. And you also don't want to be on the throttle too much when locking, it will increase the wear on the teeth.

I agree with what was said above. Rubi difs are open. And, it's normal to take a few seconds to lock and unlock. I just recently went through a ton of snow with mine and there's nothing like full lock in 4 low to get you through. I was impressed.

Take the differential cover off. You will see no LSD in there.

I don't think there is enough room in the housing for the Rubicon locker and the LSD mechanism.

It's full of locker: (pic is from another subject)

This was kind of a deciding factor for me in not buying the Rubicon. I live in Southwest Michigan and we see a lot of snow. I have better traction for driving in the snow with my LSD than the Rubicon and I completely disable the ESP since I don't like it correcting while I am correcting for wheel slippage. If the Rubicon was LSD when not locked I would have a larger monthly payment.
