Rust already!
Ok, for those who expressed doubt, or thought i was nuts...
(i am but that really is a different topic altogether)
I took these last night after work. Now, i know it is easily fixable, wipe it off & re-lube the pins, but that isnt the point. The point is...
I drove this home October 11th of 2006. So, after 5 months and 12 days. THIS is what the hinges look like. Remember, i have cleaned this off before, it isnt the first time. (that was a couple of months ago, about mid January i think)

I should NOT have to be doing this type of cra...
...maintenance for quite awhile yet.

Sorry to see that, and I agree that you shouldn't have to deal with that for quite awhile.
On the bright side (there's always a bright side - must - convince - self - gaahhhhh!), DCX is apparently bowing to the decorative trends of the day, because "distressing" furniture, etc., is all the rage. You are the proud owner of a piece of modern art!

My dad's 1977 Chevy Vega rusted in the driveway within the first week of buying it. Glad to see good craftsmanship still exists 30 years later!!!
Oh yeah, don't worry, our child prodigy tells me that stain is PRIMER!!!

My jeep is on a three year lease so I'm curious to see if the dealership will just blow me off. I don't think they will as they may get this jeep handed back to them with vertical pin stripes under the hinges. Thought it would be a good idea to lease because it's a new model with bugs that need to be worked out. Figured I'd lease for 3 years and let them work out the bugs and if I like it I'll either buy out the one I have or get the 2010 model.
OK a little discouraging note.
There's 2 ways a vehicle can be production painted assuring paint tones match all components.
-Doors/hoods off and rack monted to pallet with body
-Doors etc. on and propped open
Ours were painted doors on, you can tell by both the door side and body side bolts are painted.
This means any replacement hinges eg. stainless being considered will entail painting the areas where the original hinges were after removal.

...lovely...
but thanks for the warning.
hood hinges. looks like the hinges were painted and when the hood was opened the paint broke.....american automobile workmanship, i love the jeep but it's built like shit... waiting for the front end to fall out ...i also can't get enough of that cluck that sounds like it's coming from the seatbelt mech. grrrr
I had the rust prob.. I took the doors off, cleaned off all signs of rust, shot Eagle one nano wax in the female and on the male (did not buff out), then put it all back together. I gave the area another spray of wax, buffed, and haven't had a problem since. I did this around Feb., we had snow in late Feb.. No rust at all. Hope this helps...
