Sounds like a good idea. I'm glad that this thread got ressurrected, because I wanted to mention that I have the same issue... took my doors off for the first time about a month and a half ago, and the pins were already rusting, even though they have never been directly exposed to the elements. In any case, I'm glad to hear that wax seems to be a decent fix (however temporary).

I'm pretty confident that whoever comes out with replacement door pins for the JK will see them turn into a ubiquitous best-seller in a year or two...

i have now had mine off 3 times to clean up the rust stains. Shoddy worsmanship & materials in my book.

Has anyone else had all of the torx head fasteners showing corrosion? (turning from black to gray, white powdery looking corrosion?) All of mine are. Door hinge nuts (took 'em off anyhow so who cares.. all of the tailight screws, the windshield bolts, etc.) I am going to back mine out & squirt them with some rustoleum i found in the garage.

I dont dare take it to a dealer, by the time it waits 47 days for their "corrosion specialist" to show up, I'll forget where i left it.

My pin has rust too. But I expect that. There's no way paint is going to stay on the pin with the abust it's taking. I havent seen any signs onthe oustide of the hinge barrel like the above posts though. that would be dissapointing on a new vehicle.

Anyone hear about someone offering this for the JK? I would think that they would already be out.

Default rusty pins

Shortly after my last post in this thread, i developed the bleeding hinge syndrome (BHS) too.

the torx fasteners also had that same grey discolouration (Canadian Spelling)

One of my front factory tow hooks was also rusting at the same time

i took it to the dealership, complained about rust on the hinges, they replaced the torx fasteners under warranty, but said that Chrysler won't do anything about the bleeding rust from the hinges. They did replace the tow hook though.

Normally my dealership is pretty good, they have followed every TSB i have asked them to, no questions asked, no need for proof that there is a problem. This is the first time they have refused to do something under warranty, other than the missing paint issue, which they refused during the same visit (they had previously said they would look into it)

i haven't had my doors off yet, so i don't know how rusty my hinge pins are, and i haven't been able to clean the rust off myself. or lube them up.

Almost as worrying to me, is that my dealership sold me one of those DK 9000 electronic rust protection gizmo's. I would have thought if the product's claims are true, that they would protect against the rust that i have already seen on the tow hooks and the hinges.

At least it came with a lifetime paint warranty. They will replace any body panel that develops rust holes, no matter if the rust came through from the behind the panel, or from surface rust on the outside of the panel.

But i plan to speak with the sales manager who sold me the thing and see what i can get out of him, since i don't trust the device anymore.

Took my doors off last night for the first time. Torx nuts white and corroded and doors pins were rusting. The upper driver's side door pin was completely orange.
I am less than impressed.

Would sanding down the pins to remove the rust change their diameter and prevent a nice fit of the pins when I put my doors back on? Rustoleum on the pins?? Suggestions?

Sanding will change the diameter of your pins. Not by much unless you go crazy on them. You would probably be better off oiling them. Pull the doors and wipe down the whle surface. The paint will probably be galled off fromt the twisting.

I took my doors off today for the first time. The pins on the door didn't look too bad on mine (April 2007 build). But just to be on the safe side, I lubed the pins with some household oil (not WD-40, plain old oil) before I put the doors back on. I also noticed that my hinges coming from the body had what looked like a black washer above the hole where the pin sits. Does everybody else have this? I also lubed up my freedom top screw threads as well. Hopefully this will prevent any rust (or at least decrease the likelihood). Just my 2¢

If any of you have any rust on the hinges, take it to the dealer and bitch bitch bitch. If your regular dealer says no, voice your dissatisfaction and threaten to go somewhere else. If you're still not receiving any joy, call Chrysler customer care - 800 992-1997 and talk to a representative. They can at least generate a case number and try to work with the dealer on your behalf on the issue. The old saying, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease!" I had to make at least two dozen calls between calling my dealer and to Chrysler, but I am finally getting my defective (peeling) front bumper replaced under warranty.
