On my way I saw many Wranglers JK.
Almost every one of them got rusty muffler under nice and shining body...
Is this very common "thing"? Or maybe I saw something else... Maybe it was brownish paint
Just asking, for sure rusty muffler not gonna change my decision about buying my JK But if this a common thing why not painted the muffler with heat-rust proof paint for garden grills...
Get some black high-temp paint and spray it. At least it won't look as bad.

The JK muffler uses a stainless steel that turns brown when exposed to heat. I sprayed mine with a high temp black paint. I touch it up now and then.

Someone mentioned that they see rust on spindles and driveshafts.... That is normal. These components are not stainless steel and are not painted.

My regards,

Widewing

x2. I did that to my JK the second day I had it. 8 months now, and no issues at all. My first JK I did the same and drove it for a year and a half with no issues.

all of the above, if it bothers anybody just paint it, also most of the mufflers do tend to turn a different color, the difference is that with the jk you can see it.

The muffler must be made out of the same special steel that Toyota makes pickup trucks out of.

You know the ones that are rusting apart in the midwest and being recalled.

It works, though; and is cheaper than a new muffler.

I have an 08 with around 4k miles and my muffler is browning on the right side near the tail pipe. Is this something that could be replaced under warranty?
