A good paint to use, giving a matte black look, is hi-temp BBQ paint. This should be available almost everywhere, and is not expensive.

You can paint and in 6 mos. it will be the same. If you leave it alone the light coat of rust wlll protect it.

Wire brush and Rustoleum high temp bbq paint is the way to go. Damn can sticks out like a sore thumb otherwise I wouldn't care. I just did mine for the second time. They salt the hell out of the roads in New England making for tons of rust. First time I did mine was six months after I got my Jeep!

I used to use under coat on all my exhaust systems, the rubberized sort. I would spray it on and then run it at idle for a few minets and let it get hot that would more or less bake it on never had one rust out. Just a little trick I picked up from a muffler shop, Still use it on any welds on my exhaust system aswell.
