Default Separated my front slip yoke boot

So this weekend I pulled apart my front slip yoke boot, and had to cut away the loose clamp and half of the boot that was spinning wildly. (Makes me appreciate manual hubs.)

Is this an easy repair? Can if be done somehow without disconnecting the front drive shaft? I'd rather not pay the dealer but I also don't really have any tools or skillz.

Also, is this common? Is the stock boot short, like they assume you're not actually going to flex your suspension? Is there a longer one I should get?
