shifting problems help please!
I have had this problem since I got the jeep almost 3 years ago. I complain to the dealership at every oil change.
a year ago they replaced the 1st to 2nd syncro and it was slightly better. During the last oil changed their transmission "expert" claimed that is how this transmission is.
After having both a yj and a tj I'm a bit disappointed with my 2010 jk. Thinking of going to test drive a 2012.

glad to know that its not just mine and happens during the cold. i guess ill just have to put up with it until warmer weather comes around! Thanks for all the responses!!
In my experience if you put it in neutral and then pull the cluch out and then try to put it in gear tends to work a little better. My tacoma does the same thing. Surprised that this occurs with my 2010 jeep tho being almost 10 years newer than the truck....

2010 4-door - build date Nov 2009 - purchase Jan 2010 - 19,000 miles
This is a known problem with the 6 speed.
I've been driving stick shift since I was 12 yrs old - so that makes it 50 years now.
I've driven a little bit of everything - farm tractors , 2 1/2 ton trucks with non-syncro transmissions, pickups, Carryalls, old VWs, two-speed axle semi-tractors (lots of split shifting), . . . ah this list is getting too long. I'll stop.
I own two old Jeeps ('54 and '57) and have owned Chrysler products during the last 2 1/2 decades and have NEVER driven a stick shift that was so stiff and hard to shift. I drive it gently and still get gear crunching going OUT of 1st and then again going into 2nd. 3rd has a steady tick noise.
All this gets MUCH worse as it gets colder. When it hits 10 degrees, I have to manhandle it into 2nd and it takes over two seconds to make the shift. Also, when it drops below freezing, I have to put it FIRMLY into 4th or it jumps back out - the infamous "inner shift boot" issue which doesn't bother me when it's above freezing.
This is NOT right.
I have changed the tranny fluid using the obscenely overpriced Chrysler product and I've also tried aftermarket, low temp fluid. None made any difference.
No, I don't have clutch issues.
It's the synchronizers, they are (to be charitable) rubbish.
The dealer's response - "No problem found." I call BS.
I will hit the dealer again if it'll get really cold here, then they can't pretend it's not there.
Wish me luck.

Starting to feel better about my 42rle (POS) auto since I wanted the 6spd (dealership didn't have any) because I prefer manual and hate(d) this auto. I'm positive my auto will fail as soon as I start towing (plan to tow a small 3500lb (suggested max tow) camping trailer.
The 2012 JK's WA580 is a champ....perfect ratios, strong and it is used in the current RT8 392 hemi lineup, hemi Cherokees (even in Sprinter based Motor Homes). Pretty much the go-to trans for light duty rear drive Chryslers. I'm praying someone
comes up with a swap to the WA580 for our older rigs. I can almost deal with the weaser mini van motor, but couple that to two bad trans choices....let's say we build character every time we drive...
