Hey guys, i've had my jeep for about a year now and i have put the soft top on and taken it off countless times correctly but the side windows in the rear never stay closed completely and they always start flapping around in the wind. Its annoying so ive been using ducktape to hold it down and it works but only temporarily. also im going on a trip to the nj shore from nyc (my home) and ive already broken the seal that held my doors on, so now i can take them off with no problems. with that being said i am going to take them off and drive that trip with no doors, however im going to be down there for a couple of days with NO doors. other than the soft top issue my question to you guys is, is taking that long a trip with no doors safe, in terms of theft, and yes i understand that demographics, areas can play a big part but i need some opinions here. thanks.

 

I bought a pair of noise canceling earbuds for my iPod for running with the doors off at free way speeds. Factory radio is pretty much useless at 75 and cuts down on the wind noise. Just a helpful suggestion. But only if your state doesn't have a law against it.

 

I personally wouldn't ever drive more than a few miles on the highway without doors. Wrecks get a lot worse at 75mph and if something happens with a semi, there's no hope left. You already have very little protection in a jeep, and getting rid of the doors gets rid of a large chunk of that protection.

Reason number 2 is gas milage. Mpg goes way down when the doors come off.

 

Doors off is fantastic. Well worth the time especially on a trip to the shore. However, it might go without saying, but getting stuck in the rain isn't much fun. If you are taking an extended trip, you might want to consider taking a tarp just in case.

 

Worst problem I've had is a homeless guy looking inside but I just keep everything unlocked and cleared out if I'm going doorless so that way there is nothing to take. As for the highway it's never safe with no doors due to a car accident but it's a lot of fun if the weather is in your favor!

 

LOL well aparently great minds think alike, i always carry a few boxes of noise cancelling earbuds from the flightline in there for when i take the top off, but thanks.

 

Thanks for the tips on the doors guys, but what I really need to know is how to keep the side windows of the soft top from flapping around when i have my doors on. Anybody have any tips?

 

My guess is you aren't tucking the leading edge if the soft window into the channel of the door surround.
