Soft Top Rear Window - Is it a Pain-In-The-Ass by design?
From another thread:
Hope that helps!
The zipper is very often a PITA. Here are my tips for the rear zipper:
Of course, once you've really screwed up the teeth, these tips aren't going to help as much.
- Unless you are taking it off completely to take the top off, just raise both sides to just under the corners and flip it up so it rests on the roof. This way, you don't have to fight the zipper around the tricky corners.
- To zip up and around a corner, stand on the bumper so you're leverage is above the zipper. This helps a lot.
- To zip down and around a corner, grab the top corner of the soft top and pull it down towards you as you zip-- if you need a little more help, bounce the corner up and down.
- LUBE that baby! If you have some time, run a dry bar of soap up and down all of the zipper teeth and then brush it all down with a wet toothbrush. In a pinch, use a wetnap along the teeth.

I've only done it once in my JK while driving. I'll usually just flop it into the trunk space.
That being said, I didn't realize I was supposed to pull out 3" or so on the sides of the window. That might explain why I feel like I'm going to pull the zipper off from pulling so hard.
I don't know why anyone even bothers rolling up their rear window. Unzip it all the way from end to end and it just folds down and sits there. It doesn't scratch and there's no straps to deal with and no rolling to do and no detaching the window frame-rail. It's ultra simple. My zippers don't come anywhere close to the PITA category.
I don't like to roll it up either. The first jeep I had I rolled it up all the time and after a while I could not see out the rear window when down. My past two jeeps, I just roll the windows up in the clover patch system and my windows always look good.
just a fancy tube that you can store your windows in when not in use...it's a tube that has pcs of felt in it that you can place inbetween your windows...roll 'em all up and shove them in the tube...looks like a nylon bazooka...actually it closely resembles the nylon bag that comes with collapsing camp chairs...if you buy a big enough camp chair, you can have one cheaper than the price of the clover patch...i just have a fleece blanket that has straps and buckles on it that fits my windows perfectly...nice n' cheap and does the job perfectly...cheap?...hell the blanket was free!
