Soft Top Straps
I put my sft top on - brand new, clean, out of the box. Rolled up the back window. Went out for a 30 min drive and dinner.
It's already fscking scratched. Talk about horrible design ideas. Why give me the idea to roll it up with those straps if a brand new, clean rear window is going to get scratched THAT FAST?
ridiculous! throw them straps out so you don't get tempted to do it!

Straps with buttons?
I have no such thing.
I have elastic straps in the back to hold up the rear window and I have velcro straps that go around the soft top arms when it's pulled back.
Where are these buttons?

Thanks for the advice on not using the roll-up straps!
On another issue...
I have the 4Dr with dual tops. The instruction manual shows using the elastic straps to hold the frame when it is fully folded, but they run it through cut-outs in the top rail of the body. On the dual top there is a threaded plate in this cut-out. Any ideas how I'm supposed to strap down the frame? It hasn't been a problem yet.
Also, I am using the cover thing as a boot. I figure it will eventually rip, and will get a real boot then.

That is, the elastic straps should be used to only support the rear window when rolled up. The velcro straps are used to hold the sunrider open, or to hold the entire top in the down position.
There's a little threaded plate held in place by a plastic clip. This is where the torx scews go, but it occupies the slot to strap down (yes the velcro ones) the soft top frame.
I didn't want to break the clip trying to remove it on my own.

You won't break it. There are easily removed. Just took mine out yesterday.
But you just unzip each side of the window, straight up, so it's still zippered on the top. Roll up your window to the top. With the straps buttoned to the top, just stretch them around the ends of the rolled window. Window will dangle snapped and zippered at the top.
Anyone else not have these on Early JKs?
if anyone has an extra clip, for instance you thought you lost that little "bugger" and purchased one from dealer, or a friend, or some crackhead on the street, that stole mine, Let Toad know!!!!!
