Soft tops
I am on the Jeep website looking at different configurations for a potential new JK. Is getting the Sunrider soft top over the regular soft top worthwhile? It seems like the opening top on the Sunrider can only be used a slow speeds.
I don't see much advantage in that.

I like the Sunrider, but that's my opinion. I did notice that it actually seems more breezy with the sunrider folded back than it does with the entire top back. It is nice to have, though, and I've had mine folded back at highway speeds (65-75) with no issues. I think I read somewhere (owner's manual maybe
) that you shouldn't use it above certain speeds, but haven't had an issue myself. I'd say go for it...

There are two different soft tops. A standard soft top, and a sunrider top. As I understand it, the Sunrider comes as part of the dual-top group. At least mine did... i got the hard top and Sunrider as a dual-top group.
well there is the soft top(sunrider) and then there is your Freedom top...which has the two removable piece in the front..i have heard mixed reviews about those..wish i had one but oh well...i bought mine with the sunrider and havent had any probelms with it cept for the wind noise at speed and if there is a good wind blowing it makes it twice as bad...
There are only 2 tops. The soft top, which is called the "sunrider", and the Hard top which is called the "Freedom". The sunrider top has the capability to be pulled back and folded so that the front seats are uncovered, and the back seats remain covered. In this position, if strapped properly, highway driving is possible. THESE TOPS ARE ON THE WRANGLER UNLIMITED.
For the Wrangler, there are 3 tops. The hard top. The SUNRIDER soft top, this like on the UNLIMITED can be folded back so the front seats are uncovered, and the standard soft top. The standard soft top cannot be folded back like the SUNRIDER, but rather is normally folded back to the rear cargo area.
The soft top comes standard on a new Jeep Wrangler. The SUNRIDER is an optional upgrade.
Now to submit my opinion about the sunrider versus the standard soft top. I have an unlimited soft top, and it came with the only soft top available. The sunrider. I have not in the 2 years of having this vehicle used it in the sunrider position, therefore I believe it to be a waste for me. Some however do use it as such. Were I to get the Wrangler, I would not upgrade to the sunrider, as I would most likely never use it in the sunrider position. During summer months I just remove the top and install our bikini top, along with the trail duster I got from best top. I carry the Mopar trail cover so in the event of rain, I throw that on.
These 2 diferent soft tops on the Wrangler look alike from the outside.

I like the Sunrider in that it is a quick fix and is a bit easier to handle than bringing down the whole shebang. Also, on warm days when I can see the clouds coming I generally will just move it into the sunrider position, 'cuz I don't want to screw around with taking the windows on/off in the rain.
At speed it's not much of an issue, as long as you fold it right (I didn't the first time, and it let me know!).
Not a bad choice at all, but if I had to do it again I might have gone with just the hard top and a duster/bikini combo.
Cheers
