Default The sound deadening 'goop' on the floor board

I was reading the thread where people pulled the carpet and chiseled up the sound deadening stuff put down on the floor board.

Several guys found there was moisture or water in that 'goop'. Which made me wonder...should we all tear out the carpet and chisel that stuff up so it won't promote rust?

I took my carpet up and used a air chisel to take it up. I did not notice any moisture in mine the stuff was dry.

I owned my jeep for maybe 3 months and only let it sit in the rain doorless once. About two weeks later I was going to bedline my interior and found water underneath the

take it from me.....chisel that damn shit out....if your carpet has ever been wet ( rhetorical question i know ) then rust is occuring under that crap. I chiselled/wire wheeled down to bare metal before having my tub Line-x'd. The drivers footwell was the most saturated and came off really easy....the rears were a bitch but the clean look and peace of mind knowing my tub is not rusting was worth the sweat!

oh ya..if you have rubi-rails check out what happens to the insides after two years

If you chisel does it tear up the paint? May bedline at some point but just curious if you have to patch it up after

After reading this, I may have to do this. I don't know how many times I've left my Jeep out in the rain without a top.

How long did it take to remove with a hammer and chisel??

Chiseled some of it up to make sure it wasn't holding moisture. Looks dry to me.

i ended up leaving my windows down one night on my 08 4dr, needless to say i ended up pulling the front and rear carpet out and pulled the plugs. the goop came off around where my right foot sits. if i take all the goop off does it really make that much of a difference with sound? and if i liner it, i could always through my carpet back in if i really wanted to right?
