so what was it? Mind does this too 2011 5,000 klms on it. I thought it was the tray too but I have added felt strips to try to stop the noise. I will have to check my tail gate.

I just taped the top and bottom of that part and now no clucking, thanks guys, man I love it here,

oh I taped the part it fits into as well, seems to work fine, one test drive and no clunks.

I bet there are lots of jeepers out there that could benefit from this thread.. I sure did.

after reading this yesterday I went out and I put a strip of that stuff you put on furniture to save your hard wood. I put in on the tailgate side on the bottom bracket on top. The door was tight closeing but gets easier as you open and close it and BOOM no more rattles. I thought for the longest time it was the storage tray

What you guys are showing in the pics there -- the striker and what I'd call a guide-block -- I adjusted both of mine on my JK long ago, when I first got it. My tailgate wasn't shutting flush. It is now

I actually just re-adjusted the guide-block last weekend, chasing a clunk I know was coming from a worn tailgate hinge. (was trying to compensate for it).

I actually "fixed" the hinge noise. I took the plastic covers off the hinges to find out what was going on. The bottom one had a very small amount of play, but it was catching 'hard' and making an obnoxious pop noise. WD-40 cleared it up.
