spark knock is driving me crazy

15% ethanol? that would hurt octane at 87 and you would have to run higher octane just to get back to 87 levels.

My JK pinged quite a bit until I replaced the spark plugs. They weren't that far gone, but they were worn. I replaced them at like, 89K miles. New plugs were gapped tighter than the factory spec calls for, and I left them like that.
For as far as I can remember, my JK pinged under load, or when I'd sharply tip into the throttle - to anticipate a hill, pass a car, etc. I'd run 89 to combat it. New plugs, hardly any ping, and I'm back to running 87.
I do still get it if it's crazy hot out, in traffic, and I do something like a botch shift and load the engine hard.
Also, FWIW, oil has a lower octane than gasoline -- I think that's why those with oil consumption issues also experience knock.
Also Also, I have seepage like that around my intake manifold. Worse actually. I personally consider that normal.

I agree that the knock is caused by oil getting into the combustion chamber either thru bad rings, bad valve guides and too thin of oil or a combination of all three. The dealer replaced my lifters, decarbonized the engine and just dropped the oil pan. All this in an effort to tell me the knock is caused by my 33" tires. Lol What a waste of 3 months of my time. They did offer to "take it off my hands" for a new Wrangler. Why would I buy a new one when they wont even fix my "old one" with only 17k miles on it ? Chrysler is joke.

take a look at Performance Distributors Screamin Demon coil and LiveWires. Produces a hotter spark, can run plugs gapped .065.
I've been using it for awhile and no issues at all - runs great, better idle, helped the mileage.
Spark plugs are just Autolite Platinum Spark Plugs in the same heat range as stock gapped to .065
Easy to install.

Next step is an oil consumption test which I was trying to avoid due to time constraints. I have no other choice at this point. The dealership service manager has told me numerous times that he thinks there is something wrong and the ping or knock is not normal but then tells me Chrysler will not approve the warranty to open the engine even though they already replaced the lifters. Does this jive with anybody else ? Im not sure who is really screwing me at this point ?

I'm currently trying to figure out the "ping" on my 2011 with 10k miles. 2000-2500 rpms under load is when it usually happens, although last weekend it was happening at low speed and low rpm offroad. This time it was super loud and more like a clatter noise than ping. It sound like something is coming apart. If I hovered at that throttle level it would continue to do it until I gave it more throttle, or let off. Sent recorded data to Chrysler to see what they say. Everything looks normal on the recorded data (fuel trim, knock sensors, etc). We shall see. It sucks to have this at 10k miles.
