Default Speedometer re-calibration

what should I expect to pay to get it re-calibrated when I go from stock 16" wheels and p225s to Rubicon 17"s and 32s?

Will I ruin my Jeep by running 32s with the 3.21 axel?

First, you won't ruin your Jeep. Just call up a dealership (not YOUR dealership, if you're concerned that they'll void your warranty) and ask for a quote.

You can also recalibrate yourself using the Hypertech Max Energy programmer - in addition to installing "performance tuning," it allows you to specify your gear ratio and your tire size, and automatically updates your speedometer accordingly. If you're interested, talk to David @ Northridge4x4 and he'll do right by you!

P.S.: Unless something's changed recently, your dealer can only flash the CPU to accomodate <= 32" tires - beyond that, and you'll HAVE to buy a programmer if you want to go bigger.

I would think that most would do it for free, simple process. If you can't get it done for less than 130 or close to it consider the Procal, it's 129 and can do that among other things. Not quite as many functions as the hypertech but also cheaper. I'd hit the dealers up first though.

Wouldn't the ABS need to be reprogrammed, too, since it is calibrated to a certain tire circumference?

just had mine done at the dealer...they were gonna charge me $44.10 for 1/2 hour labor, but I ended up getting it for nothing at all. it's a good thing too, because it's still way off!

Not sure about the ABS but for 129 you can get the procal and do it in 15 seconds. Really, 10 to set the switches, 2 to plug it in, 3 until it works.

My guess on the ABS question:
Once the computer knows the tire size, the ABS knows it, too. After all, the computers do talk to each other.

My jeep was at the dealer for other issues. I went in today and asked about it and he said about $50 but it may still be off. The way he went on to explain it is the jeeps computer accepts various preprogrammed tire sizes meaning the dealer can't just input any size. He can get as close as he can but it still wont be right which doesn't make much sense to me as i figured 35s would be something they would normal deal with...
