sport vs rubicon

Well, they're really not. In very basic terms, an x has the same rear axle (strength wise) as a Ruby. The front is a 30 and the Ruby has a 44, however, the ruby 44 has all the same crap except a larger ring and pinion pretty much.
You'd buy a ruby for the locking axles, electronic sway bar disco, 4.10 gears and transfer case, not really the axle "strength"

Then you take the springs/ shocks off, take all the suspension arms off, Take the ring and pinion off, take the wheels and tires off and the bumpers too. Then put all the new stuff on and... But its still a Rubi!
Although I think the D44 is a better starting point for upgrades, if your gonna change everything it probably doesent matter what you start with. I like the fact I didn't have to change anything with the transfer case but I changed just about every thing else.

Ok, a few more details.
Your particular model of sport/x/sahara will have certain gear ratios depending on the options your jeep has..if your curious about your axle ratio pm me the last 8 digits of your vin # and I'll tell you. Up until 2012 models, I -think- all Rubicons came with 4.10's.
My X model has 3.21's. GENERALLY speaking, the higher (numerically) the gear ratios are the better.
The rear axle, X, Rubicon, and Sahara, are all Dana 44's with the exception of a few early 07's that have a 35. Besides the electronic locker and gear ratio, they are the same axle.
The front Ruby 44 will have a larger case (pumpkin, hog head, big round thing, whatever) than a dana 30, which is what you have. It will also have the electronic locker and the 4.10 gears. The axle shaft and outer "C"'s, however are the same as the dana 30...
This being said, is the Rubicon axle stronger? Sure. But not my much, they also have a higher spline count than the D30's and a few other variences. IMO, the guy in the ruby running 35's is at just as much risk of breaking something as the X owner running 35's, mabe a little less so, but not by much.
If you were going to wheel your jeep and leave it pretty much stock, the Rubicon is clearly the better choice. If you either couldnt afford one (myself) or have plans for 1 ton axles (also myself) than the x/sport whatever is probably the best choice.
Now before the Rubicon owners start tearing me a new one, know this, if I had the cash at the time I'd be driving an unlimited Rubicon with 37's...but...
