Starter problems
I'm running into an issue where sometimes I can'tget the startet to trigger. I don't hear a click of. the solenoid so I believe it's the solenoid or the starter itself. Has anyone had any issues with.the clutch lock-out swtch in their JK? Obviously have manual tranny.
It's nice to know that you've at least looked at my quandry, but doesn't anyone have anything to say? Not even a "That's tough"?To fine-tune the question, I need to know if there's a physical switch on the clutch pedal or cable somewhere that blocks the starter or if it triggers a sensor in one of the computers. Obviously there's not a reasonable Haynes or Chilton book for the '07-'10 Wrangler and obviously the books they do have (covering '87 up) are far more concerned with the YJ/TJ models and barely even touch on the JK despite the significant differences between the JK and previous models.
I'm asking for honest assistance and this is the only JK forum I know of. So how about it? At least acknowledge the request for data?
If you go in and tap on the starter, does it then start? If so....A solenoid is an easy replace. I've had that happen a couple times on other vehicles and if I could hammer on it and it would start it was the solenoid.

I check starters by checking power to the terminals at the back....if it's getting power from the battery and start relay then obviously it's the starter itself, if it's not getting power from somewhere, start looking back through the system...relays, fuses, lock out switches etc. One thing we see a lot of with all these newer vehicles is issues with the anti theft keyed system, especially mazdas.
Don't go poking around at the back of the starter unless you know what you're doing though, I'd hate for someone to get hurt by jumping a terminal on the starter with the damned thing in gear or something...you could die.

I have a 6 speed and just replaced my starter yesterday because I was suffering from the starter spinning but not engaging the flywheel and it would literally take 5-10 tries before it started. I pulled the starter and took it to advance auto so they could test it. The guy connected it wrong did the test then re connected it properly and said it was pulling 300 amps where normally it would pull about 100. Get home re install old starter with no key in the ignition and as soon as I connected the battery the starter began spinning. Somehow the guy screwed it up even more so I had to run to dealer to pick up a brand new one(not refurbished) put it in and worked with no issues and now I am happy again. I've had the starting issues for a coupla months and attributed it to the no start no crank bug the autos were having. Hope this helps. Pull the starter and have it checked correctly.

Remove starter cover/heat shield
2 bolts to remove the starter.
1 nut to disconnect wire.
1 black clip to disconnect.
Install in reverse order
Good luck putting in the cover/heatshield.
I left mine off.
