Default Steering wheel iginition issue... Please help

I need help from the jeep gods
I have a 2007 wrangler Sahara unlimited, and sometimes when I attempt to start it, it makes a sound like my battery is dead and the only way to make it turnover is to turn the key half way to unlock the steering wheel then yanking it to the side and turning the key. What is causing this ??? and why on earth would the position of the steering wheel have anything to do with the ignition.
This isn't even when my tires are turned to any severe degree they are more or less straight.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

When you say it is making a sound like your battery is dead, do you mean that instead of the starter kicking to life when you turn the key it just clicks instead?

Right, it makes the inital click from the engine compartment that you hear every time but then it dosn't even try to turn over its just the click the nothing.

So i have to turn the key half way amd rotate the steering wheel hard to one side or the other and then turn the key the rest of the way
and it will start.

Just some suggestions..try a different key just to make sure its not the security system and its just a coincidence that turning the wheel is making it work...and additional ground wires..engine to tranny, battery to ground, there may be a couple other easy fixes you can do to ensure its not a grounding problem because an ignition cylinder and or clock spring are going to be pricey..either way I hope you get it resolved...let us know what it was if you fix it

The battery is brand new, just bought it on wednesday. And the problem has happened since i bought the jeep in 07. The thing is it used to only happen once a month, now its more like once every other day.

I cleaned of the negative connection to the battery when i replaced it, and no other modifications have been made in the engine bay. Where should i check for the rest of these grounds ?

does it then force you to stay in that position? like does it stop you from turning to the 3rd position (ignition)?

cause i dont think i like fully understand what youre trying to say.

No it lets you turn it just like normal, cept you here a click and then nothing
the only way to make it go was to force the steering wheel to one cide or the other
then it would turn over

I am takin it in on tuesday to get the WCM / SKREEM service done

I hope that fixes it

As far as I know its not really checking for problems with existing ground wires but adding additional grounds seems to help folks battery to chassis, engine to Trans, starter to ground if I remember correctly somewhere in those connections beefing up grounds made a night and day difference...there is a thread somewhere on here about Jeeps not starting and that seemed to help a lot of people...ill post the link if I can find it

Default Solution...

It has been over a month now since I ran a new 4gauge ground cable to the bracket for the alternator, and I have not had a single problem since..... So before you do the TPO and the static computer fix try the simple ground cable and see what happens. The jeep dealers told me the computer fix would be 600 dollars I spent 9.99 on the 4Gauge cable at advanced.
