Stock Bumper - What's underneath??
It looks like the majority of the stock OEM front bumper is PLASTIC, or at least has a thick PLASTICY/RUBBERY coated "applique" on top of it ("bumper cover"?)..
Anyways, what's underneath? Is the metal bumper itself "full width"? What about "crush cans" are these crumple zones or something and will they come off with the bumper cover or are they needed for something like airbags??
I'm just wondering if it is worth trying or if it is just better to save up for a new front bumper if I want to change it or make it a stubby.
I remember on my 98 TJ I could jump really hard on the corners of the bumper and the "floaties" (as the TJ'ers called them) would come off with some effort (the tabs were basically all stripped on those damned things and I hear it was like that for everyone).
Just kind of wondering.. Bumper will be my next area of focus once my suspension is done.

Do a search in the modified or write up section for stubbie, stubby bumpers. There is a metal frame with crush cans under the large nose peices. Lots of pictures in those threads.
