Default Stock Jack Useless?

So I decided to jack up the Jeep today to get a good angle to powerwash off all the winter grime. The only jack I've got with me here is the stock emergency one.

But after I twisted the thing all the way to the top, the tire wasn't even off the ground. WTF? It's completely stock and not lifted or anything. I'd be screwed if I actually had a flat tire somewhere.

Did I do something wrong or do most people carry a different jack with them in case of an emergency?

My guess is that you are not on the jack point. It should always lift the jeep up from the proper lift point.

Were you trying to jack it up at the frame or the axle?

The lift point is at the axel, it WILL lift the tire.... Do not try to lift it like other cars where the lift point is at the sides in front or behind the wheels. Read the manual.

I have a stock Islander with 32's and i do have to extend the jack A LOT, but it does lift the tire because you should be lifting it by the axel wich will inmedately lift the tire.

OK, delete this thread. I just read the owner's manual.

Unscrew the knob where you would use the bar to twist to jack up. Lefty loosey, I had to use pliers the first time mine was in so tight.

Thanks! The knob wouldn't budge, so I though it was just a fixed point.
