Sorry guys I have a dumb question. I noticed my drivers side front axle has leaked some fluid out on to the yoke. (enough to notice some fluid splashed around my wheel well) How do I check the fluid level? I know dumb question, I just don't know much about axles.

Thanks,

Quick update to my seal problems. I had my seal replaced under warranty and it's been good until I use 4wd once again. Any time I engage 4wd and go through the snow or through some trails it tends to leak a little as evidenced by some gear oil on the tire. This only happens on the front passenger side. I think I might be out of warranty by now and i don't think replacing the seal will fix anything since it's already been replaced.

Any thoughts?

my passenger side front seal leaked after 27K. took to dealer and they charged me $250 to tell me they were'nt covering since i re-geared (even though axle seals are not touched during a gear install, and the gear insall was done at 6Kmiles). took to another dealer and they replaced under warranty.

if you have a lifetime driveline warranty, anything that has fluid is "supposed to be" covered. since the axle seal touches gear oil this should be covered if you have the lifetime warranty.

if you've had this replaced already there should be a warranty on the repair over and above the standard warranty. not sure if this is 90/180 days but worth asking the dealer.

good luck

See if there is oil pooled as indicated in this picture.
Leaking shouldn't be related to being in 4wd. All the same stuff turns in 2wd, too.

Nope no pooling. The bottom of the C is just dark and the inside of the tire has a few old drip spots. It comes and goes.
