Default stuck in Neutral

well here i sit all broken hearted tried to chit but only farted'''''

ok my 2010 jeep wrangler automatic, is stuck in neutral....i was in the yard and decided to put the jeep in 4wd'
i was roling put the auto in neutral, moved the 4wd shifter to 4wlow put shifter back in drive went about 50 yards
still moving a little put automatic in neutral and went to shift thw 4wd lever to 2wd.. the 4wd light indicator never
went off, so while in 2wd i put the automatic back in drive and nothing,, and the 4wd lever has play in it to tension like before
what did i break..
i looked at the linkage and all looks intact...i had my fried move the auto shifter from park to low
and i could see the linkage moving ,, but it wont ingage into gear..... i don't see anything hanging on the 4wd lever linkage
could the cable have broken at the 4wd lever/ shifter..i looked and did not see any linkage loose on the 4wd lever
i tried to ingage the 4wd lever but couldn't really get to it to move the4wd lever linkage........

ihad it towed to the dealer, it still has the powertrain warrenty.. i hope they cover it..it had 24.700 miles on it
and never on a trail....... thanks

You likely broke the plastic nubbin on the tranny shifter linkage. Common problem. Common enough that you should learn how to shift it from the lever on the transfer case in case you happen to be in the middle of nowhere next time it happens. I zip-tied mine to strengthen it up.

Do you have pics for adding the ziptie? Advance adapters also makes a replacement cable......albeit pricey. There's one for sale in the classifieds now for $150.

No pic. But, I just criss-crossed them where the linkage connects to the lever on the transfer case. Others have used some type of bushing or such to strengthen it. I actually have the bushing, and someday may even get around to installing it. After replacing my clutch last year (boad TOB), it dawned on me that would have been a good time for the Advanced Adapters linkage. Too late. Maybe next TOB change (my clutch at about 100K was in quite good shape).
