i just got back from a day at the lake to discover that my tailgate wont open. i had a backpack in the back, and one of the straps got caught in the latch mechanism. i cant get the strap out and the door wont open.

anyone have any clever ideas?

Take off the vertical black vent cover on the inside of your tailgate close to the latch, it'll pop off with a flat screwdriver. You'll have some access to the latch mech and use that same screw driver to fiddle with the latch.

 

excellent. with your advice and a swift kick, the offending strap has been removed and my tailgate restored to working condition.
