Default Stupid question

If I bought a soft JKU can I install a hard top later if I want, because I love the soft top idea but the security risk has me worried as I carry expensive test equipment.

Yes you can. Probably cheaper to go dual tops right up front.

I had the same worries. I secured a large pelican case to the cargo area and still have the easy removal of a soft top.

yeah when i was getting mine in '09 i thought good about that, i found out, softtops are noisy, they fall apart with the wind and crooks just slice it open and steal things, plus Bears in yosemite will really like 'em if you have food inside, so i got a 3 piece hard top, its' better. maybe you can trade with someone who wants a softtop & they want a softtop? goodday

I'd buy a hardtop JKU (read: NOT dual top group, just the hard top). Aftermarket tops are expensive, and shipping is an expensive pain too.

Then, I'd find one of the zillions of JKU owners who did buy the dual top group and have no use for the soft top, or used it once and decided it was too much of a pain to deal with. They can be had for cheaper than new. I see postings for them on Craigslist all the time.

Yeah this is good advice. My co-worker used her soft top exactly one summer. This year she couldn't be bothered.

Yup but you'll need a $300 wiring harness to make the wiper and rear defrost work.
