I have an "X" and the fog lights turn on by pulling out on the light switch.

Just a thought.

It MIGHT be possible to put in one of these.

http://www.quadratec.com/products/52446_110.htm

I haven't looked into whether this would actually work - just saw them in the catalogue the other day and thought they looked interesting.

Depending on what they look like behind you might be able to modify the circuit board or whatever it is they feed into and subvert the switch for your own use. You then just change the lettering on the switch panel and off you go (not the cheapest switch at 40 bucks but an interesting way to spend a Staurday afternoon).

If it were me, I'd just buy the regular switch and use that with a relay to control as many fogs as you want from a nicely integrated dash switch.

That would put the $ up though.

YES! i wanted that! (the link above) but instead of the rubicon switches, i was thinking of changing them and just putting in my own fog light switch. (keep my base X package one, but add one button)

but from what people are saying here, i dunno if that's possible

again, all the electronics are already there behind that plastic. all the electronics are controlled by a "CAN BUS" system, so if you drill thru that you will certainly mess something up and cause something not to work. not to mention, if you add that you will prob need to have the dealership flash your computer to recognize the new electronics.
your best bet is to add the daystar ( i have no vested interest in the product) its just the best, cheapest and easiest solution. i have only one switch for my fogs and right now its hanging out of my dash, awaiting the arrival of the daystar. i know its only one switch, but it gives room for expansion

I should have been more specific.

I wasn't suggesting getting that panel and drilling through the PCB behind the switches.

Rather, I was wondering if it could be modified a lot more subtly.

Specifically. I don't know if the canbus recognizes the switch panel from some sort of identity signature on the board or if the canbus is programmed (flashed) with the spec of the vehicle. I expect the latter.

In that case, if you change the switch panels and maintain the connections from the old panel (with fewer switches) then the original functions should still work. If there are any extra connections into the connector on the new (more switches) panel then it should theoretically be possible to sever those (for example by removing the connector pins or cutting the relevant tracks on the PCB)

That might then afford the option to connect fine wires to the PCB behind the so far unused switches (possibly by first drilling and pinning the board). If that works out then you can control a relay and the lights are at your command.

There are 3-4 assumptions which would have to be checked before embarking on this.

1) The basic PCB for the panel is more or less the same (at least the connector is identical) regardless of which switch configuration is available on the board.
2) The canbus is told (or flashed) with the switch panel configuration and doesn't automatically recognize a change when you make one.
3) I don't think you need to be that good with electronics to try this but you'd need to be reasonably handy and confident at modifying a PCB
4) I'm not just making all this up

All that said, I was just interested but if it were me I would still go with fitting the regular fog switch and taking it from there with or without a relay as required.
