Default T-Case knob, can I just cut it off?

Is the T-case knob just plastic?

I've pulled and pulled, used a wrench and hammer, even tied a rope onto it and used a wrench on the other end to make a T handle to pull and it still won't come off.

The only things I haven't tried is hooking the winch up to it or cutting it off!!

At this rate I think it would be easier to just take my cut off wheel and cut the dang thing off.

Any suggestions?

you tried an open end wrench under it and hit up on the wrench with a hammer? mine came off with 2-3 wacks and I had it off twice. hit as close to the knob as possible and have it in 4hi or neutral. What r u taking it off for?

Yeah I tried that. The cable underneath that's attached to the keyed switch/shifter came undone or something. If I squeeze the spring/cable mechanism under there then I can turn the key off other wise it won't turn. I also can't get it to shift out of Park.

I got to go to work in the morning and am fresh out of ideas.

ok I think I understand you cant get the key out ? there is the over ride tiny little plastic door you can pop open right on top of the console to the right of the shifter then use a screwdriver to over ride that. IS everything else working? dash gauges?

this shows the two pieces the console comes out in

this just happened to me yesterday while wheeling. I was going from 4lo to 4 hi and .... nothing. transfer case was stuck in neutral and the handle was free to move back and forth. had to get under the jeep in the mud to manually get it back in gear. got it home and what a POS the linkage is. the threaded eye on the linkage is plastic!( so much for trail rated) it has a rubber grommet that hold it in place to the transfer case linkage. I zip tied it back for now. cheap design. is there a TSB on this? if I go back to the dealer I think they will just put a new plastic piece of junk back on. when I get time I will take the plastic eyelet off and see if I can find a metal one with the same threads and mod this weak link. has anyone else fixed this? I could use some ideas.

Sorry if my previous posts were confusing. The problem was that I could not shift out of park or turn the key to the off position.

As stated in many posts about center console removal there are 4 screws that need to be removed including the T-case shifter. Sounds easy enough. I beat on that shifter knob, cussed it, yanked on it, cussed it, hit it, cussed it, tied a rope to it and yanked, cussed it, but just wouldn't give. Finally after hours of frustration set in tried twisting and pulling at the same time and it finally came loose. What a PITA!!

The shift and key problem was due to a cable that apparently connects to the keyed switch and shifter and a little plastic clip. After all that work I just pushed it down maybe an 1/8th of an inch to hear it click and everything worked fine again. Took all of about 2 minutes to put it back together.

Mine did the same thing but i could shift it into anygear and park. I took it to the dealer and told them something was wrong because u could shift without pushing on the brake. They told me for some reason the parts had come apart don't know why. They had to order new parts to fix it.
