Just did this mod last night. Easy is an understatement. Looks great, though I've nearly face-planted about ten times since then forgetting that I no longer have side steps. Highly recommend this simple mod, especially if you can grab a cheap used set in good condition like I did. Makes your rig look like it has tons more clearance.

FYI, like mentioned earlier in this thread...the 2012 models have pre-threaded inserts already installed underneath the Jeep. No need for the capture nut things. Super easy install if you have all the correct hardware

Hell, I take mine steps off to go on the trail, I then put my Rubi Rails that I've welded shut and plumbed as air tanks on...
Then the reverse once I'm done on the trail... Those rails usually stay on for maybe a few days once every couple of months...
Keeps the wife happy and the rails are used for what they are ment for... Well sort of...

My question is, can I use all the bolts and the clips that I took off when uninstalling my side steps on the rock rails. The rails are considerably heavier, and the clips that were on there do not look very strong. Anyone who has made this switch, what did you do?
hey guys , new to the forum, and excellent reference section indeed.

my only question about this write up is the size of the clip circled in red. ya see, i just came across a set of the Rubi-rails to install on my JK, but i dont have the clips or mounting hardware, i got the size for the smaller screws permanently affixed to the rail, ( m8x1.25x25 ) i believe they are.

but i dont know the size needed for the larger hole on the tab mount .. im thinking of improvising, but if i knew the size of that circled clip, that would be a good start.. i was hoping for a few pics of that actual part mounted.

ill add my own pics when im in the process of installing mine.

thanks n advance

Those clips might already be on your JK. Sometimes they're covered up by some foam tape.
