Default Temperature Control & Vent selector cables

ok, so little heart broken here.

2 different issues:

1, the vent selector cable is either stretched or the lever is broken.
what happen is something got caught between the glove box and lever/cable.
i couldnt change vents and the knob was stuck. so like an idiot i forced it to move not it didnt work. i looked behind the glove box and saw there was something that fell out and got stuck. removed it and now the cable wasnt working properly. so i'm not sure if the lever is damaged or if its the cable. i can kinda change vents one direction but cant the other way. the cable bunches up and doesnt move the lever.

2, BUT in the process of messing with the dash panel i must of broke something with the temperature cable. BECAUSE NOW IT DOESNT WORK EITHER!

SO i cant tell if the its the lever or the cable for that side!

one thing i can tell. is that i cant reach the lever on the driver side..

anyone have any ideas or helpful hints?

its a 09 2dr auto

I'm shocked no one ever posted a reply... sorry to resurrect this but did u ever get it fixed? I am having the same issue with the temp control but I'm certain I caused it cause it messed up shortly after me taking stuff apart to modify my radio. I'll investigate later as its not priority as long as my AC works (here is sunny California that doesn't believe in winter).

Open it back up and check all the cable connectors. You should have enough room to move the temp and vent controls to see where they are bunching up or not moving at all.You probably yanked the cables loose when you pulled the dash the first time

Just pulled the dash tonight and noticed my vent selector cable is bent just behind the knob. From what I've read on other sites, I'm going to need a new stainless steel cable. Anyone know what the part number is and how much it costs?

Thanks!

had this happen shortly after i did some work to my stereo and it turned out the little plastic lever that is turned by the gear on the knob pulled off the gear and i had to line it back up and get it pryed back onto the gear teeth

If the braided cable is bent you can sraighten it with 2 pliers. If you can do it by hand you sir are the hulk. Before buying a new cable take the center console apart and give it a try. Might save a whack of coin.
Pretty sure they bend when switching between vent positions when the fan is set on high speed. Too much force on the blend door flap for that type of cable.
Still using old straightened cable and turn fan to off when changing vent positions.

After reading that the DIY fix (bending bent wire back to straight) does not hold up too long, I just decided to get the new cable from my dealer. It was only $15 and probably took less than 25 total minutes to remove dash and glovebox, remove and replace cable and reattach everything. I have had the dash off before so I knew what I was doing. I've been dealing with this issue since last winter so $15 seemed like nothing to get rid of the issue!!

Part number for future readers is 68004203AB.

Good Luck!!
