Why can't they install oil coolers 1) as a recall fix 2) if not that, then a mod that doesn't potentially void the trans warranty? Then I open my hood and see that BOTH head gaskets are leaking fluid, in addition to the trans gasket and both pumpkins. Folks, love your Jeeps all you want but these things are pieces of crap. I wouldn't have bought it w/o the lifetime warranty, so I knew what I was getting into and fortunately I won't have to pay for any of this. I feel sorry for those who don't have the lifetime warranty!

they need to be careful on the "warranty voiding" I was threatened with the same thing but put the trans cooler on anyway, I really think they will have a legal problem if I have a tranny issue and they do not cover it

I agree that there are a LOT of shortcuts on these vehicles, I would add crappy axle seals and ball joints to your list

it is also true that the service departments are generally not well educated, try asking them about the mygig radios and adding hands free to it......... or which years can control an iPod/iPhone, amazing that they do not know their own product, I get more and more accurate information from online enthusiast forums than the dealer

I still love the JEEP but for $30K I expect superior quality and service than what you get when you buy a $10K Hyundai

Happened again a few weeks later on Bear Creek rd, both times with family on the way to a scout campout. took it into the dealer, who says that the shift points were off, they reset the shifting. I took it on a test run up Hicks to mt umminum rd and couldn't get it to happen again and haven't seen it since...

I guess this illustrates the OP's issues clearly; instead of calling the thread "These things are pieces of crap" it should have been "my Jeep dealer/service department is crap". In patrick99's case above the dealer listened to his complaints and did something about the problem; re-calibrated the transmission shift points, which seemed to solve the problem for him. Sure, the auto's do have a tendency to overheat & Chrysler should be fitting aux trans fluid coolers at the factory but still, the dealer did at least give it a go.

I'm not sure of the situation in the 'States, but where I am (due to the relatively small volumes of Jeeps sold) there are no stand-alone Jeep dealers and very few Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealers either. Most jeeps are sold by big dealers that sell several brands under the same roof (ie GM, BMW, Hyundai, Jeep, Dodge ,Chrysler) and thus apart from the service departments not having specialised knowledge of Jeeps as they don't see that many on their hoists, they also don't have the interest or "passion" for Jeeps that a dealer solely selling the Jeep brand would have.

Thus comments such as "never heard of DW/overheating trans/leaking hardtop, etc" are quite common from these types of dealers as they probably only service a handful of JK's a month if that. I wisely bought from a big Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer which had the reputation as having one of the best service departments in the country and thus any issue I've had with my JK has been sorted out quickly and without question under warranty.

All new vehicles regardless of sale price have design and material faults (look at the Mercedes & particularly BMW forums & you'll see pleanty, and we all know about "super reliable" Toyota's numerous recent recalls). The real difference between makes seems to be the quality of dealer service that owners recieve, and in Jeep's case this unfortunately seems to be frequently sub-standard.

Gee, guess it wasn't just me thinking your having issues Spartan. If you anger follows from thread to thread, they call that a clue to the problem. Have a  and chill out.

I've got a 46,000 mile 2007. I'm the original owner and so far the only problem is the steering damper. I had it replaced under warranty after one year. Then after one year, I had the second replaced. Other than that and a few recalls, no issues. Looks like you bought a lemon (not referring to the color).

you know if it had a third pedal you wouldn't have the trans problems :driving:. You are right Pilots are good vehicles, if you taking the kids to soccer, or crawlin the mall. just my : 2cents :

my dealer at least TRIES to fix things, they don't ignore them. I check the work afterwards too..Sometimes they're out of the loop as far as the chronic JK issues, but when I tell them they always check it out for me..they have a good reputation for service where i go, so it should all work out.

Yea you are right, you would have different transmission problems and clutch problems. There are just as many problems with the manual version. I have an auto and have never had a problem with it.

I think the 99 in spartan99 stands for the year he was born. Everyone just ignore him and mabey he will go away. Children just want attention. Good or bad.
