Default throttle issues? (maybe gears, maybe not, help.)

I need some diagnosis help, and then repair advice. I'm thinking given the nature of the problem I'll just be bringing the car to a mechanic, but I figured I'd ask a bunch of people who probably know much more than me before I paid anyone, so thank you in advance.

I was driving up to the mountains today, about a 120 mile drive, in my 2016 JKU Willy's edition. about 100 miles+ in, all the sudden my rpms drop all the way down and my gas pedal is doing nothing at all. I would press the gas and it felt like the car was trying to do something but the RPMs weren't going up. it felt like the gears slipped off each other. I pulled over, restarted the car, and all was well besides the new check engine light. Then on the drive home, I had no problems until again around mile 100, same thing happens, restarts just fine and made it the rest of the way home. I have about 41k miles on it, I haven't touched the axels or the transmission, but there was a previous owner. The drive was all highway, no traffic, mostly just cruise control at 70 but both incidences happened while cruise control was off. Any idea the source of the problem? anyone else had this issue?

Thanks so much.

To save others from looking, OP has an automatic.

First basic question, what was the code being thrown. This isn't gear related. This sounds throttle, fuel, or transmission related to me.

it might be the crankshaft position sensor. Mine went on my 2013 in 2017. Felt like gears were 'slipping'. I had/have a Bluedriver scan tool (A lot of people will recommend getting an OBD2 scan tool) So diagnosis was easy. In my case it was a $24 part and had it installed at local shop for $35 bucks because I was being lazy.

Yup, automatic. I tried to put as much info as possible I can't believe I forgot that piece! Thanks. Code is P06dd, research says has to do with something in the oil system. I am about a thousand miles over the sticker given to me at my last oil change... but I figure those stickers are on the short end so that they keep you coming back. Also I don't know much but this didn't seem like a symptom of an overdue oil change. Thanks for your help!

The code definitely points to the oil system as you see. On the 3.6L the oil cooler and filter housing are the same unit, and the pressure sensor installs in to that. This part is a common issue on the 3.6L with either the filter housing cracking or the sensor crapping out. If the sensor goes I think you get a different code though, P520, as I've seen this on a buddy's jeep; however, when googling around on P06DD it seems like a lot of people replaced that same sensor. Might at least keep in mind this is a common faulty part. Is the oil level normal or low?

oil level seems normal. Realized the car is still under warranty (cause I’m a sucker and the salesman got me&#128514 so hopefully that’ll cover it and I can just take it in! Thanks for the input!

If you take it in and they have a diagnosis, please post a follow up. It will help someone in the future trying to search the boards for an answer to their problem.

i just got off the phone with the mechanic, he thinks it’s just that dirty oil blocked a sensor and the car got confused. He doesn’t think I’ll have any more problems after an oil change. Since I have to do some other repairs I’m going to my Jeep guy and I’ll ask him about it, maybe I’ll have a better answer. Thanks everyone for the help!

I can't imagine how dirty oil must be to cause that; needless to say I am very skeptical that is the underlying issue. It kinda sounds like someone's "out" to get rid of you for the moment.
