Stock JK TechBulletin board forum regarding issues with OE (original equipment) components of the Jeep JK Wrangler (Rubicon, Sahara, Unlimited and X) such as factory suspension parts, engine, transmission, body parts, interior fixtures and the on-board computer.
I have a 2008 JKUR and the other day I started to hear this tinny, almost like metal on metal, sound coming from the front of the vehicle only when I accelerated. I decided to try and rule out various systems like the suspension and drivetrain by setting my car in park and revving the engine. It was there when I did that as well, so that told me it’s most likely the engine. I’ve attached a video with the noise (sorry for the wind). Any ideas?
Try having someone rev the engine while you record that sound from in front, hood up. Maybe you'll be able to narrow down the general area (front of engine, driver, or passenger side), that will help us help you better.
The sound is definitley coming from more underneith the car. In front! Almost directly under the motor what it sounds like.
Couldnt check any more right now. - But is there any chance you could guide even easier how/where to check for those welds? Sounds pretty hopeful, really hoping for that that’s where the sound is coming from.

i have been driving with this sound for 50000 km.
Three years to get back? LOL. I'll shoot a photo of the welds later this morning; it's 3 a.m. right now. Guess you can wait until after sunrise!
Photo, just in case someone finds this thread and could use it. This is on the 3.8L motors (the 3.6L motor in my Gladiator is much smaller and different). Note that I replaced my cats a few years ago with an OEM one and the new one has straps around the two outer welds that presumably will reinforce the weld and prevent breakage.
