I made a small pressure vessel out of pvc and put my TPMS sensors inside. Pumped her up to 40 psi and it didn't shut off my low pressure light on my 16 JK. Anyone have any idea where I went wrong? I read some people think the sensors are looking for rotation as well? Thanks and advance.

I believe the sensors go to "sleep" when they are not rotating with the tires.

 

Strap your vessel to the wheel and go for a spin. The lack of rotation would make sense. I had the same issue with my 09 GTI. Driving to the tire shop with the tire on the front seat didn't turn out my light.

 

why not just use a programer to shut them off?

 

This is what I was thinking.

 

Do not believe this is accurate because your spare tire does not spin and it has a sensor and when the pressure drops it will trigger the light.

 

I tested it on mine. Left it at 20 psi for a few days. The system was unaware of the low psi in the spare.

Both the 2008 and 2012 JK service manuals make references to the WCM's monitoring of the four rotating road wheels. There is no mention that it monitors the non-rotating spare.

I suppose it could be different for the newer JKs.

 

My friend has a 2015 with the sensors and runs no spare- the computer doesn't know it isn't there but if the driving tires drop 3 psi then he's getting lights. It also knew when I bolted my tires on to his jeep without any sensors.

 

DAMN! A local low-price tire chain ruined one of my tire sending units. It never occurred to me to swap out the unit in my spare.

As far as I know, my dash indicator only alerts to my four (currently only three) tire sending units - not the spare.

I was going to pick up a sending unit on Ebay, but I thought there was a switch in suppliers of the tire sensing units. I have an early 2008 JKU. Does anyone know the brand of system I might have? Are these problems in adding a sending unit purchased on Ebay?
