i have a problem with my transmission, when i shift to third gear it makes some noise sometimes, like two metals hitting each other.

does anyone have the same issue?

what is cuasing the noise?

how do i get rid of it?

 

Syncronizers maybe? Is it a crunch sound? If so it's gonna cost $$ unless it's under warranty. The gearbox will have to come out & be disassembled.

 

Although the infamous "2nd gear crunch" is a well known feature of the 6-speed box, some people have also had trouble with the synchro on 3rd going bad. From what I've read the problem seems to be that 3rd gear & 5th share the same synchro set, and these synchros often recieve the most punishment from drivers shifting down quickly and forcibly to get more pickup (ie: slamming it quickly from 4th into 3rd to do a quick lanechange in the city, or ramming it into 5th from 6th on the highway and hitting the gas when you start slowing on a slight hill & find vehicles closing in on you from behind at high speed).

If it is the synchro then your unfortunately looking at between 1-2 grand (depending on what the mechanics charge) to have the transmission pulled and disassembled, the synchros replaced, and the whole thing re-installed.
