Tree Sap
I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to get tree sap off my jeep. I've tried various things that I bought in the store and to no avail. Does anyone have anything they tried that works that can help me out? I have some spots on the soft top and the paint. Help, please?
I had one glop of sap that was so hard I had to use Goof Off on it, but be careful and wash it off real quick. I'm sure its not good to leave on the paint. And it would probably be horrible for a soft top. I definitely don't recommend that.
First thing is to wash the car well with a good soap, I use meguiar's products and swear by them, their gold class is one of their best consumer soaps and should be easy to find. Make sure you really wet the car down a lot first to soften up the sap, then wash thuroughly with the soap and a good wash mit. Do not push too hard on the surface trying to scrub the paint. Next you want to use a detailing clay bar, meguiars has a few different ones that vary in aggressiveness. You use their quick detailer spray in conjunction with the bar. That should get the remaining sap/tar off.
If you park where this could be an ongoing issue, then i would recommend a good waxing to protect your paint and in between using the quick detailer spray to quickly clean and maintain.
here is a faq on clay bars

The important thing is not to scrub too hard and agitate the fibers.

Try WD-40. It works on some sap and most bugs. Spray it, let it soak for a few minutes then scrub it off with Ivory DW liquid and water. Good luck on the top. My wife's work has trees that drip sap, some kind of sticky flowers (in season) plus houses pterodactyls. When those Jurassic nightmares shit I swear one of them can cover half her car. The WD 40 takes care of most of it unless she doesn't get the shit off in time. I think they eat cans of paint thinner. She's real good about not driving the soft top there.
Some people use soapy water for claying, but the meguiar's stuff really is the best. Check it out.
I think I may do a detailing writeup for the board with my jk
