Oil filter on the Pentastar 3.6L is located on the top of the engine in the front under the cosmetic cover. Remove the cover with a wrench and you just replace the filter element. No mess. No spills. No crawling underneath. Lightly grease the new O-ring before you install.

Should be a cap on top the engine you take off with a crescent wrench and pull old out, drop in new.

Did my first change a couple weeks ago. Cleanest filter change I have ever done.

Just finished my new JK's first oil change about an hour ago. I'm at 1000 miles and wanted to change the oil to get any break in debris out. Pretty straight forward. for removing the filter. It should only go back in one way since it snaps into the cap prior to reinstallation.

***WARNING: These are plastic parts. With the big O-ring on the housing tighten only enough to seat the housing and a wee bit snug and you will be fine. DO NOT GORILLA TORQUE IT.

I think this is one of the best things jeep has done. no mess filter change.

I also like the fact that you can easily inspect the filter now. Mine was very clean for a break in, had a few tiny shiny bits normal build/break in debris but nothing abnormal.
