Water Fording this weekend. Now ?'s
I went out and played in the back water this weekend with my folks and we went through record breaking water at least for my jeep and I was wondering if i went through water that was no deeper than my door if i was ok? Meaning that my diffs, tranny, transfer case, etc. were probably good. If not would I be able to notice? I also did some shifting but the water was probably 6 inches from the door sil. I looked under it while stopped and the water was probably just barely touching the trans. I loved playing in the water just get a little scared afterwords because of the fear that I may have pulled in water. I would appreciate any water fording success stories. I have a 07 stock rubi. no frils.
Ill try and attach picts.

up to bottom of doors sounds alrite
just cause of some issues with water getting in axles i would check that fluid to see if it is milky.
seems the cover on some wasn't fully sealed other than that everything should be ok.
also might want to buy a grease gun and then a needle attachment and shoot some grease into the rubbers of the steering, upper and lower ball joints tie rods and what ever else i missed
enjoy

if you like going thru water alot get a snorkel, there have been quite a few people who have hydrolocked their engines already sucking up water
I think that is mostly because of the CAI systems. I don't recall hearing of anyone hydrolocking their engine with a normal intake. That said if you hit the water really, really fast you could hydrolock it with a stock intake.
i like the snorkel idea but kinda scared to put a hole in the side of the jeep. Thanks for the responses. I will check the diff fluid and see if it is milky. Water fording is great fun. The only thing that kinda made me skittish was not quite knowing where the road was.
Anyone else been out in the flood waters.

I think the fan is causing it somewhat too, I saw one jeep in a puddle just over the top of his 35in tire and the water was actually being shot out from under the hood right next to where the air intake is, definately to close and easily could have been sucked right into air cleaner
Always check your diff fluids for water contamination after they have been submerged. Even though the vent is higher, don't forget your basic physics. You're submerging a hot axle in cold water. This creates a slight vacuum inside the axle, which will attempt to siphon water through any available opening, including a small imprefection on a seal or gasket. It only takes a minute to remove the plug and check the fluid. I don't know about you guys, but I have to work several weeks to make enought $ to fix a broken diff or axle.

Yeah I hydrolocked my stock '07 Rubi (no CAI) going through puddles too fast, but it happened pretty much immediately, i.e. in the middle of one of the puddles. If yours is still running, you should be fine in terms of the engine. Just make sure your airbox is clean and dry. Like tkob1060 said, get a snorkel if you like the water.
Yeah it looked like an ocean out there in the river bottoms. I wish i would have had an air boat.
I know now that foam in my rear diff doesn't mean water because i checked my rear diff two days ago and i put my finger in the hole and it came out with foam on it so i freaked. Changed the fluid immediately to find out that it was just air bubbles. Oh well better safe than sorry. I will definately be moving my breather hoses up to make me feel a little better. Probably wont get a snorkel in the near future. I would like to lift it first.
