Default Sort of...

Actualy coolant started leaking from around the 13mm bolt on the right side of the pump housing, not the weep hole of the pump itself. I will prol just get a pump and gasket and replace it myself, and thread seal the bolt. Similar problems with some of the GM veh. I used to get paid to repair if the threads were not sealed. ( No dealer for me, still MasterA.S.E. certified ) and can't stand the thought of someone else working on my Ride. Glad I got out of the shop before industry tanked though.

Mine didn't fail exactly, but it did pick up a nice squeal. I was on a road trip to Lake Tahoe and brought it to the local dealer. They talked to Chrysler and determined it was most likely a dry seal in the pump. They tried to order a new one, but that would have taken two weeks - and I needed to leave the next day. A second call to Chrysler came with a recommendation to use an additive (P/N 68029698AA) used to fix a similar problem on the Chrysler 300/Magnum/Charger. They suggested I try the lubrication to see if it would help.

Well, it helped! I brought the Jeep in to my local dealer with the repair tag that said the water pump needed replacement. They checked out the water pump and declared it healthy! Guess since it hasn't squealed since, it must be!

The water pumps used on the caravan 3.8 was (is) really bad, but apparently they aren't using the same one on the 3.8 Jeeps.

Thats what I heard from a guy at Chrysler, but its the same engine so I find that hard to believe

Mine just failed at just under 17k. It showed no signs of going, then it started "weeping" one afternoon, by the night time, i had to add coolant and even still i lost heat. It failed quite fast.

The dealership said it wouldn't have lasted another day, but they replaced it under warranty.
