Default Well, she started burning oil

Changed the oil on my '08 today. Only pulled out about 3 quarts of oil. It's a sad day. I just went with 5w20 again since that's what I bought but I guess I'll switch to 10w30 on the next change. Anybody got any advice on what else to do?

Check the oil more often so it never gets so low.

Some people have slowed the oil burning with thicker oil.
Others have had good luck changing the PCV valve.

Find a Hemi and keep it in the garage. That is what happened to mine 6-8 months before it scattered the engine all over the freeway.

Is there an advantage to using the chrysler v8 like transmission compatability etc? Just seems like its treating a problem like aids with a solution like herpes.

How many miles on the last oil change? Are you sure it was filled last change?

Is this the first time you've consumed much/any oil between changes? Have you checked for actual leaks or weeping?

Has your gas mileage suffered?

PCV valve is cheap and easy.

Thicker oil *might* help but brand and type can be as important as grade. And IIRC 5w-30s tend to be more sheer stable than some 10w-30s according to the oil forum gurus.

And listen to Ron: check it often!

6,100 miles because I'm lazy (I know I shouldn't do that). Not exactly sure if the dealership filled it last change because I was in the middle of moving and I had them do it. Yes it was the first time it's consumed oil. I checked for leaks. None I could find. I will look into changing the Pcv valve, just gotta figure out how to do it. And my gas mileage has actually improved as of late, getting around 18 with 33's and 3.73's. Used to get around 14 but it's more driving style than anything else.

I haven't had any running issues either. A couple low idles here and there at a stop light, but nothing major. Still need to clean my throttle body and it hasn't done it since I stopped using cheap gas. Just throwing that out there, not sure if it has anything to do with it.

Read through the thread.
It's not really necessary to unplug the wires from the coil. Just push it back to the firewall.
Also, if the zip tie thing doesn't work, there are several other good methods mentioned in the thread.

Here is a thread that describes the function of the PCV valve: https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/stoc...-study-137149/
