Default What do I need to switch over to a hard top?

I purchased my JK with just the soft top. Aside from purchasing a top and wiring kit, what hardware am I going to need? I was looking at one at the dealer and it looks like I need 6 threaded brackets for under the rear rails. Do I need anything for the top bolts if using a freedom top?

Any help would be appreciated.

If you buy the top from the dealer you get all you need with it! Thats what I did. But if you buy second hand here is the parts list.

1. Six brackets/bolts that go under the body rails to screw into.

2. Six screws to secure the top to the body.

3. Two large screws with big plastic handles that go through the sound bar and into the top.

Thats it!

You can pick up the 6 torx screws from forum sponser Cooltech. They have "nubs" on the top so you can use your hands and no tools.

They are there, otherwise you wouldnt be able to screw into anything. You can move them with your finger from the inside.

Yep, they're under the ledge of the body. Covered by carpet.

Do you also need the cable to the rear window washer and defrost? Assuming the top you purchase comes with these.

Regards

You do need a hard top wiring kit. It comes with the electric for the rear wiper, new heating/ ac controlls (has the defrost button for the rear window), and a new washer fluid pump. I got mine on ebay for $130 (they are $230 from the dealer). Installed it all myself today in about 2 hrs. The only hard part is swaping out some connections in the fuse box and behind the speedo.

Total price:
Freedom top: used for $900
Wiring kit: $130
6 Threaded brackets: $50 from dealer
Bolts: $18 from cooltec on ebay

I drive down lots of rough roads, so I was concerned that I might loose a top panel without the bolts. I bought a set from the dealer. They ended up being around $40.
