Default What does the "Tow Package" entail?

I have been unable to find a complete description of the OEM Tow Package. I know it includes the 2 inch receiver and the trailer wiring. Some forum comments seem to imply a larger automatic transmission cooler, etc. $500 seems a real rip-off if the factory package only has the receiver and wiring harness.

It is different in different years. In 2012 the tow package had the receiver, wiring, and anti-sway software. The MAX tow added the 3.73 rear. In later years, the anti sway software became standard in all wranglers. Also, the 3.73 coming with the max tow disappeared. There is no difference in any trans coolers regardless of tow package or no tow package. You first need to decide what year you are talking about, then go from there. The coil springs potentially are stiffer but there's no way to be sure without checking the particular Jeep.

+1. Most of that $500 is usually due to upgraded gearing.....which if you're going to run larger tires is a total waste anyhow as you still end up wanting/needing to regear. If you're leaving it stock, tow package might be worthwhile, but if you're gonna modify, it's not worth it......regear, add a hitch, wire up connections.
