What option are worth it in a new 2011
After 5 yrs of building up a used 99 Sahara, It's time for a new project. My wife & I are looking at a new Unlimited but are confused on the options that are out there. And lets face it, you know this thing will be lifted & on 35s within a year. So, are the Sahara & Robi worth it or is the Sport just as good ? and what options are worth going with? ( Trac-lock Limited Slip Rear, Trail Tow Group, Gear Ratio Choice, ect) Let me know what works for you and what doesn't. Thank you for the help. BTW It's got to be wife friendly to. She is paying half the bill.
A Sahara is the same as the Sport or `X` but looks pretty, and has a cooler radio and stuff. Same axles, same gears, and same transfer case. So if you can afford it, look at a Rubicon, if not, what ever you think looks nicer, go for it.
if you wheel i would not get a sahara only because the fender flares are painted.. so if you whack one out on the trail nad have to replace it you must get it painted to match... whereas on the rubi and sport the fender flares are black plastic.. and replaced without needing paint..
that said, the sahara offers more options like navigation, auto headlights, heated seats, etc that are not allowable options on the sport.. (you can get these on the rubi also)

I went through a similar issue before buying my 2011 Rubicon. If you are going to wheel alot then the Rock Track Transfer case and Dana 44 in the Rubi with front lockers is a big plus. As far as other options I ended up getting the base radio but plan to add uconnect and I wish I had the 30gb hard drive. Not needed but its a nice plus. I didn't want the heated seats but after purchase wife stated that she would have enjoyed them. I have read that you can custom order a sport or sahara with the Dana 44 in front with lockers but never pursued this route. I just went with the rubi. If I had it to do over again I would have done it the same way. No regrets here.

On a Sahara or Sport, I'd definitely pop for the $295 Trac-Lock limited slip diff. It's a cheap option that can make a difference in tight spots on the trail. Indeed, it's so cheap that I can't imagine forgoing it.

I just had to do it. Went to the jeep store and sat in a beautiful 2011 rubi. That thing was loaded, pwr windows, pwr door locks, remote start, nav system, 7 speaker system with sub, leather, steering wheel controls, cruise, auto and I couldn't believe that it was only 38k, wow! Of course now he wants me to bring my 09 by so he can look at it and try and make me a deal, can't drive it right now due to broken foot (clutch foot) so I had a good excuse for putting him off. But it sure looks better in person than it did in the pictures. I like it.
i think if you have a shop, and tools, buy the x, and build it how you want it. i bought a rubi because i dont have tools or a shop. there is something to be said about man and machine, when man builds the machine. if you can build your own, the way you want it, do it. if not, get a rubi, and when time/money allows, you can upgrade it. rubi's arne't perfect, but than, what jeep is?
