What supports the hood?
My '08 JKU came with an aftermarket Mopar chrome grill, which had the long black rubber/foam strip on top of it. I have since replaced the chrome grill with an OEM paint-matching grill. However, the OEM grill does not have the rubber/foam strip on top of it. Instead, it has two tiny holes drilled into the top of it; one on each side. The hood hides these holes when it is latched. My questions are:
1. Is there supposed to be a rubber/foam strip there?
2. What are the two holes for?
- Are the holes even supposed to be there?
3. When the hood is latch and fully secured by the side straps, what is the hood's underside resting on?

There definitely should be the foam on both the paint matched and the chrome grill. Either pull the old one off your chrome grill and use 3M auto tape to re-install, or check the dealership for a replacement.
Are the 2 holes the ones that secure the grill to the frame on top? Think they are towards where the grill starts to curve down towards the fender (those should have the annoying plastic rivet things). Or are they someplace different on the grill?
The hood sits on the spring i believe which is what causes the dreaded hood flutter that many experience.

Hood Seal, part # 55397279AB. Same as was on your chrome grill.

Thanks everyone. However, the two tiny holes are not for the plastic push pins that hold the grill in place; they are much too small and not located over or under any matching holes. Each hole is located approximately where each end of the rubber strip would end. I'm now wondering if the grill's previous owner drilled these.
In lieu of the rubber strip, I've installed a pair of 3/4" tall rubber feet. These are like what is on the bottom of a home stereo or guitar head. I used those tiny holes in the grill to screw them down. They cushion the hood pretty well. This also does a great job of keeping the hood from moving in high wind. However, I'm worried that the pressure transferred from the hood to the feet will eventually crack the grill.
