Default Whats wrong with Fram oil filters?

I saw a few guys say to stay away from Fram filters, and I was wondering why? I always thought they were good filters. I've been using them for years, but if they're junk, not any more.

I don't think these links will violate the rules

I personally used them for many years with no issues. I decided to steer clear of them about a decade ago when I got several boxes with the wrong filters inside. Both times I didn't think to check and I had to borrow a car to go buy another filter since the oil change process was already underway.

Good luck with this thread. "Which filter" and "which oil" can stir up pages of emotions.

Not that it matters at all, but I use Wix on my JK. Oddly the filter also fits my lawn mower.

The only engine failure I've ever experienced was traceable to a Fram oil filter. No they didn't honor their guarantee either.

i've never had a problem with the fram filters... their construction seems pretty current with any other OEM recommendation. my 2-cents would be to consider when your oil filter is being replaced. temperatures/humidity/etc. has a lot to do with any parts longlitivity. fram may not be high-performance, but i think they work well within reason of oil changes.

Never a problem with Fram.

But i like to use OEM oil filters , they just seem right.

Especially for my wifes Toyota , they have on o- ring gasket which seems like the way its supposed to be.

Thanks for the info. I have a Fram extra guard sitting here for the Jeep, but its not going on now!

I used to use Fram filters in my hot rods, but the quality has seemed to nave gone way down, so I no longer use them.

At work we had a Fram oil filter split down the side and drain the oil from our chevy diesel van. Blew the motor. Fram wouldnt honor the warranty. Also a friend of mine is a manager at a local advance auto. They had 5 people in the past year bring back split fram oil filters. All on diesel trucks though. She said their cases are about the thinnest out there. She said they started getting thin about 5 or 6 years ago.

I did a lot of research when I bought my diesel pusher motorhome. It has an engine that I definately don't want to destroy. Of course, there are differences between filters for diesels and gas engines. While doing my research, I found a lot of favorable comments regarding WIX and NAPA Gold filters for gas engines. Turns out they are the same filter. I've been using the NAPA Gold ever since. Pick up a NAPA Gold and a FRAM for the same vehicle. You'll notice that the NAPA filter is heavier. It has denser media and a more sophisticated valve than the FRAM. Of course, if Fleetguard ever starts making oil filters for gas engines, I'll switch to them!!

I've always had good experience (and only heard good things about) Wix filters...
