Exclamation Wheel Locks!

I just bought my JK and I am getting ready to install a TF coil lift.. I guess the company who did the last tire rotation, WAY over torqued the wheel locks. I spent about 2 hours with a hammer, 4' bar and a torch trying to these retarded things off.

I was able to get one off, the others just strip out.

Anyone have any suggestion on how to get them off? I tried hammering a socket over the lock with no luck.

Any help would be great.

Take it back to the place that did your tires last time and make them take them off. Just my 2 cents.

if u do not have the key, take it to diferent tire shops, they carry various brand and size wheel lock keys. just keep checking the shops. thats how i got mine off, but went through 5 shops before found one that had the correct key

Hi - I have the key, but the locks are so stripped its useless. The key actually warped from the amount of pressure trying to loosen it.

I will see if I can find a tire shop to do this.

Thanks for the replies.

depending on the rim, could u get a pipe wrench on the lock to get a better bite then use the cheater bar (your 4' bar) or u may have to get an impact gun on it

if u can get a better bite wth the pipe wrech and use the bar, there is no reason they should not come off with that much leverage

edit: be carefull as u might end up breaking the stud off before the wheel lock comes off

I hate it when tire shops use impact wrenchs to put the lugs back on.

Rule: Impact wrench to take off only.

I've stopped a tire shop from using an impact wrench when I saw them through the glass using it as a machine gun. BTW, they torqued TWO of the nuts so much that they busted 2 of my lugs. Oh, and the lugs have to be purchased/ordered through the dealer using your VIN.

Yeah its frustrating! This guy must have sat on the impact for 20 minutes, I broke the lug nuts lose, but wheel locks won't move.. On a serious note, you would be screwed if you pulled a bead on a technical remote trail and couldn't get the damn tire off.

I was only able to get one lose, hopefully a tire shop can help me out here..

I have seen some "wheel lock" removal tools online, so if a tire shop cant help I guess I will give that a try.
