Who has to die for the "stall bug" to be fixed?
I'm sure they have problems... everything does...
however if you look at the reliability ratings for the past 10 years... one company is FAR ahead of anyone else.
my bad attitude is backed up by JK FACTS:
1. Thin sheet metal
2. Stall bug
3. Poor plastic dash
4. leaky hard top AND soft top
5. 'missing' paint areas
6. ESP / stability items malfunctioning
I just do not believe this vehicle is worth the price.
Now if these things were fixed and or the price lowered, i would be a much happier person...
Dont get me wrong; i LOVE a lot of the JK improvements over the TJ
High pinion axles, sway bar disconnect, longer control arms, MyGig, more room, etc... I just think that this first year vehicle, and all first year vehicles could have used a little more testing...

If you want TIGHT steering get a BMW...
my mom's X5 is the shit (when its not in the shop)
the X5 goes on the highway.... ends up in the shop...
my Tj goes through the woods and over boulders.... no problems...
Of course, the Z3, you can feel the movement in the steering wheel when driving over a stack of 3 quarters.... (road & track or something, i forget)
my TJ, i can drive over a Civic, and can't feel it in the wheel

Yep, all new vehicles seem to have their issues. My 1997 JGC went into reverse by itself a few years after I got it. Almost ran me over. I had left it running, put it in park, and closed the garage door. Was surprised when it idled back through my old garage door. No one would believe me when i said the thing went in reverse by itself, until a year later and they did a recall on all JGC's to add a solid detent that would stop it from going into reverse. And yes, never leave a vehicle running if you aren't behind the wheel, but never had a problem before.
So, you would say, Damn, Its a Jeep problem. Nope, try a 2004 Toyota Camry XLE with 15k miles on it. My wife's suddenly decided, courtesy of the "utterly reliable Toyota drive by wire system" to go into max throttle while in the driveway. Ever try stop a car when it surges for 50 feet, hits my other car in the garage and takes the wall out? Yep, thanks Toyota. I submitted an NHTSA report, and begged Toyota to look the car over. Turns out they do not save data in the black box, by design, unless the airbag goes off. I'm told by my insurance adjuster that the Toyota lawyers pretty much made that design decision. The Toyota was fixed, but my wife is scared to death to drive the thing.
So, Jeep does need to fix this problem (No, I have not had it yet, but there must be a problem if so many are reporting it.) As for Lexus, or any other manufacturer, you probably are OK, or then again maybe not. It seems to be a roll of the dice in this age of electronics. Ever hear about the Prius doing the same thing (stalling out at 40-50 MPH)? In that case the power goes off and STAYS off. Supposedly fixed, but who knows when it comes to software. Maybe they all will die (including the Jeeps), on Halloween eve. Makes you wish for the old days when folks could work on a car and knew what made it tick. Still, I love my JK so far. It is a great vehicle.

To answer the question of the post title, (i.e. "WHO HAS TO DIE...?") I hate to say it but we held a secret poll and nominated you, original poster, because of your lack of intestinal fortitude, cancelling your order... SabrToothSqrl came in as a close 2nd because of his Piece Of Sh-- JK-bashing, and my smart-ass remarks landed me in the top 10!
So don't buy one. I will submit though, that numbers 2, 4, 5, and 6 don't happen to every vehicle, or even a majority. 1 is a problem with most vehicles, however, they aren't as slab sided so the shape gives them more stability. 3 is a problem with a lot of vehicles, get over it or cover it. My dash hasn't scratched yet, but my armrest has finally succumbed to my wife's idiot dog jumping across it.
Funny how you changed. The only thing better than a rolling death trap is a cheap rolling death trap. Or something like that. Go buy your used Lexus, call me when you get stuck wheeling.
